Rainbow Fertilizer is a limited-time gear item introduced in Grow a Garden during the Fall Market event. It belongs to the prismatic tier of fertilizers, a category associated with rare, event-exclusive items that significantly boost plant growth and yield. Because of its limited availability and high multiplier effect, Rainbow Fertilizer is considered one of the most valuable consumables in the game.[1][2]
Appearance and Design
[edit | edit source]The Rainbow Fertilizer has a box-shaped design. On its front face, there is a green circular emblem featuring three upward-pointing arrows. It also sports a black handle, giving it the gear- or device-like aesthetic common to in-game gears.[3][2]
History and Introduction
[edit | edit source]Rainbow Fertilizer was added to the game during the second half of the Fall Market event in 2025[2]. Before that, the game already had Silver Fertilizer and Gold Fertilizer (or plans for them), which provided lower-tier mutation effects.[3] Because of its introduction during an event, Rainbow Fertilizer is classified as limited—i.e. obtainable only within the event’s scope[2].
Acquisition
[edit | edit source]Players can obtain Rainbow Fertilizer by participating in the Fall Market (Fall Activities / Fall Energy) event.
During the event, completing designated in-game tasks yields Fall Energy. One of the reward tiers, at 500 Fall Energy, includes Rainbow Fertilizer among possible rewards. The event cycles of tasks reset periodically (for example, every 12 hours) allowing players to accumulate energy through recurring chores.[3]
In addition, Rainbow Fertilizer is listed among the potential items in the 500-energy reward slot in event reward tables.
Because the item is limited to the Fall Market event, it is not permanently available via normal purchase outside that event window.[1]
Effects and Mechanics
[edit | edit source]When applied to a plant, Rainbow Fertilizer transforms that plant into a rainbow-mutated state for a fixed time duration of 2 hours. During this period:
- All fruits harvested from the plant benefit from a 50× multiplier (i.e. yields are multiplied 50 times).
- The fertilizer also boosts the chance of producing further rainbow mutations in the plant’s yield (i.e. fruits have a better chance to mutate into the rainbow variant).
Because fertilizer effects cannot stack, applying the Rainbow Fertilizer to a plant will overwrite any active mutation effect (e.g. Silver or Gold) on that plant. Once the 2-hour duration ends, the plant will revert to its base (non-rainbow) state; the multiplier and special mutation bonus disappear.[4]
Because of its potency, Rainbow Fertilizer is most effective when used on plants that already have high base yield or value, so that the 50× boost delivers the maximal return. Players sometimes wait until their plants mature or near harvesting to apply it.
How to obtain Rainbow Fertilizer
[edit | edit source]- Primary source: The item is a Prismatic and Fall Market reward available from the Fall Activity and Fall Energy reward track. It unlocked around the 500 Fall Energy reward tier during the Fall Market Event (Fall Market Part 2 / Fall Activities). Complete Fall Activity quests to earn Fall Energy, hit the 500-tier reward, and you have a chance to get Rainbow Fertilizer.
Comparison with Other Fertilizers
[edit | edit source]In Grow a Garden, there exist (or plan to exist) multiple mutation-grade fertilizers:
- Silver Fertilizer: Turns a plant silver for 2 hours, grants a ×5 multiplier for fruit, and may carry a small chance for the plant to become permanently silver after expiration.[4]
- Gold Fertilizer: (Less well documented in sources) is expected to offer intermediate benefits between Silver and Rainbow tiers. Some guides include it in the same family.[2]
- Rainbow Fertilizer: Highest tier, highest multiplier, and limited.
Because only one fertilizer mutation can be active on a plant at a time, choosing when and where to use the Rainbow version is a key strategic decision.
Limitations and Strategy
[edit | edit source]- The temporary nature (2 hours) imposes timing constraints: using it too early (on a low-yield plant) yields suboptimal gain; too late, and it may expire before harvesting.[1]
- Since applying Rainbow removes any existing mutation status, players must weigh whether overriding Silver or Gold status is worthwhile.[1]
- The fact it's limited to event rewards means acquisition is competitive and availability is restricted; missing the event window may mean one cannot get it for a long time (or unless re-run in future events).[4]
- Because of its high multiplier, community players tend to reserve Rainbow Fertilizer for plants with the highest base yield, maximizing return on investment.[1]
Best practices & recommended usage
[edit | edit source]- Use on high-value plants — apply to prismatic/expensive trees (Elder Strawberry, Grape, Maple Resin trees, etc.) so the big multiplier yields the biggest payout.
- Timing: Apply right before you want to farm heavily — 2-hour window is limited, so use it when you can actively harvest/collect or when pets/boosts are also active to stack multipliers.
- Combine with other boosts: Pair with sprinklers, pets that increase yield, and weather/mutation events to maximize returns — but remember physical fertilizer effects (Silver/Gold) don’t stack with Rainbow.
- AFK mechanics: Community videos/discussions show players often AFK while fertilizer runs (apply → wait 2 hours) to collect the visual/rainbow variant or chance at rainbow mutation — but results vary based on when you collect or reclaim.
